About Healthful Heroes

HealthfulHeroes.com is maintained by Healthful Stories, Inc., a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization with one mission:
To chronicle individual health journeys—from symptoms and diagnosis to treatments and advice for others.

Our Goal

Our goal is to inspire, empower, and reduce global suffering, one life at a time.

Our Vision

We are inspired by every journey through illness. We believe that by sharing our stories, we can heal ourselves, help others, and transform our world.

Our Founder’s Story

From Personal Struggle to a Global Mission

For nearly 40 years, our founder unknowingly lived with severe sleep apnea—a condition that devastated his life. Imagine 40 years with no restful sleep. The effects were far-reaching: constant fatigue, brain fog, irritability, and compromised heart and mental health. His ability to exercise, focus, and even connect with his family was severely impacted.
Despite trying every treatment imaginable—CPAP machines, oral devices, and surgery—nothing seemed to work. Then, in a moment of desperation, he decided to combine several treatments. That night, he experienced his first truly restful sleep in four decades. Overnight, his health transformed: energy levels skyrocketed, his mood lifted, and his brain fog cleared.

This transformation led to a revelation: If he could help the 35 million Americans living with sleep apnea find faster solutions, why stop there? What if Healthful Heroes could help hundreds of millions suffering from all types of illnesses—by sharing their stories and helping others navigate their own health challenges more quickly?

Thus, Healthful Heroes was born. Our founder’s story is just one of many. By magnifying these voices, Healthful Heroes aims to drive systemic change in healthcare—empowering individuals to take charge of their health and offering hope and guidance through shared experiences.

Other families talk about sports, we talk about cancer diagnoses. I hate that for them… but at the same time they are some of the most empathetic, understanding people at that age.

Anne
Stage2B Breast Cancer Survivor

I had immense support from my friends. I had lost both my parents so I didn’t have parents so it was really that core group of people that that all took the time to come and be with me.

Steve
Gastric Cancer Survivor

While in treatment, I used my time wisely daily. I would make goals for myself, like I would see how many nurses I could make smile in a day.

Marcel
Stage IV Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma Survivor

I am not my disease… I do not have to lose myself in pain… I am a father, a husband, a dog-owner, a web-comic owner… I lost a decade of my life… I don’t want to lose anymore…

Lars
Living with Fibromyalgia

At the moment I walk quite a bit, most days I reach my 7,500 steps target, do some modest resistance training when I feel like it and when the weather is nice I go for a long ride on my e-bike.

Hans
Living with GOLD IV, Endstage COPD
